Both build in-app tours and checklists without code, and both price on monthly active users. What differs is how much your plan holds back, and what you pay as you grow.
Last updated 13 August 2026
Of all the onboarding tools we get compared against, Product Fruits is the closest match: same job, same pricing model, and a starting price in the same neighbourhood rather than a multiple of ours.
Neither side runs away with this one. Product Fruits has built out sideways, so a knowledge base, an in-app help centre, a newsfeed, a feedback widget and an AI copilot all sit alongside the tours. If you want your docs, your announcements and your onboarding in one product, it covers ground we don't.
What you give up for that's a plan that holds things back. Product Fruits charges on volume and on features, so tours are capped, surveys and the API start on the second plan, and seats are counted. HelpHero puts every feature on every plan and prices only on how many monthly active users you have.
Choose HelpHero if…
You want every feature on every plan, unlimited tours, segments and team members, built-in A/B testing, and a bill that stays lower as your user count grows.
You want a knowledge base, help centre and AI copilot in the same tool as your onboarding, and the Pro plan's feature set is worth the higher price to keep the stack small.

HelpHero has absolutely helped our users onboard more easily. Creating tours is fast and easy. It’s one of the most important software products we use. Highly, highly recommend.

01Features
What both do, and what only one does
On the core job, walking a new user through their first session, the overlap is close to total. Both give you these without writing code, and Product Fruits includes all of them on every plan.
Code-free tours, checklists, hints and tooltips built without a developer
Audience segmentation and targeting rules
Dynamic personalization from your own user attributes
Custom CSS and theming to match your brand, on every plan
Analytics on how each flow performs and where users drop off
Single-page apps and every major framework, React and Angular included
Install with a JavaScript snippet or test with a Chrome extension
Priced on monthly active users, with no cap on how often flows are shown
Targeting rules driven by user properties and events
After that they head in different directions. Product Fruits builds outwards and charges for the extra by plan, where HelpHero keeps the surface small and includes all of it everywhere. Four differences follow from that, and two of them go their way.
A knowledge base in the box
Product Fruits
Product Fruits bundles support content that HelpHero doesn't have at all. Every one of its plans includes a public knowledge base, an in-app help centre, a newsfeed for announcements and a feedback widget that captures screenshots and screen recordings; private, permissioned articles arrive on Pro. HelpHero has no knowledge base at all, so if you want your docs and your onboarding to live in one place, that's a real point in their favour.
The AI layer
Product Fruits
Product Fruits has built an AI copilot called Elvin into the product. It answers user questions in-app, launches a tour when someone asks how to do something, and on the Business plan will run onboarding as a voice conversation. There's an admin-side agent too, which drafts guides from a description. The conversations are metered and top-up packs are sold separately, but HelpHero has nothing equivalent.
What your plan includes
HelpHero
Product Fruits gates by plan as well as by volume. Starter stops at 15 tours, 50 hints and 2 checklists, 5 segments and 1 language, and leaves out surveys and NPS, the REST API, custom events, the private knowledge base and most integrations. Those arrive on Pro. Every HelpHero plan includes every feature we offer, with no caps on how many tours you publish, so the only thing your plan decides is how many monthly active users it covers.
A/B testing and seats
HelpHero
Product Fruits doesn't have built-in A/B testing. Its own documentation explains how to run one by wiring up a third-party testing tool, passing the variant in as a user property and building a segment around it. HelpHero includes split testing on every plan. Seats work the same way: Product Fruits sells 3 on Starter, 10 on Pro and 40 on Business, where HelpHero doesn't count them.
The verdict
A knowledge base and an AI copilot alongside your tours is ground Product Fruits covers and we don't. What HelpHero offers instead is nothing gated and no seats to count.
02Pricing
Product Fruits pricing, band by band against ours
Product Fruits pricing is published in full and so is ours, both charge on monthly active users, and neither meters how often your flows are shown, which makes this an unusually clean comparison. Product Fruits bands at 1,500, 3,000, 5,000, 10,000 and 20,000 monthly active users and quotes anything above that on request. Three of those bands match ours exactly.
At the entry tier the two are close. Product Fruits Starter is $149 a month for up to 1,500 monthly active users; we have no 1,500 tier, so the HelpHero plan covering those users is the 2,500 one at $115 a month. That's a real difference but not a dramatic one.
The gap opens as you scale, and it opens again if you compare like for like on features. Product Fruits Pro, the plan where the REST API, surveys, custom events and branching flows arrive, starts at $249 a month. All four are standard on every HelpHero plan. Both columns are in the table below so you can judge which comparison is the fair one for you.

Product Fruits prices and plan limits are quoted from productfruits.com on 31 July 2026, billed month to month; it discounts annual billing by 25%, which brings Starter at 1,500 users to $1,332 a year. HelpHero yearly billing gives you two months free, so the 2,500 plan is $1,150 a year. Where a Product Fruits band has no matching HelpHero tier, the HelpHero column shows the plan that covers those users. Product Fruits quotes above 20,000 monthly active users on request, and its Business plan and ours aren't compared here. See our full pricing page for every tier.
The verdict
HelpHero costs less at every band Product Fruits publishes, and the gap grows as you scale. At the entry tier it's a close call, worth weighing against what their Starter plan bundles and we don't.
Start by writing down what you're actually using. Product Fruits bundles a knowledge base and an AI copilot alongside its tours, and neither of those has a HelpHero equivalent. If they're carrying real weight for you, that's a scoping question worth settling first, because it changes what you're comparing.
If it's the tours and checklists, the move is small. HelpHero installs as a JavaScript snippet or through the Chrome extension, the same shape of job as the Product Fruits snippet already on your page. There's no import tool, so flows get rebuilt rather than migrated, and we would rather say that plainly than let you find out after signing. The editor is code-free and you build against your live app by pointing at the elements you want a step attached to, so rebuilding a flow is closer to retracing it than writing it again.
List what you'd be leaving behind. The tours come across as work, the knowledge base and the copilot don't come across at all.
Install the snippet. One script on your app, or the Chrome extension if you would rather not touch a deploy yet.
Rebuild your highest-traffic tour first. Usually the one new users hit in their first session, so you learn the editor on the flow that matters most.
Move the rest in order of traffic, then turn the old ones off. Our support team will help you plan the order if there are several.
The rebuild is usually shorter than people expect, because the Starter plan caps you at 15 tours in the first place. Two other things help. Our trial runs 14 days with no credit card and no call to book, where the Product Fruits trial starts with a demo. And seats are unlimited on every HelpHero plan, where Starter gives you 3, so everyone who wants to help with the rebuild can.
The verdict
You can rebuild and test at your own pace without paying twice, because the trial doesn't need a card and nothing at Product Fruits has to be switched off for you to start.
04Trade-offs
Where each one is the stronger choice
This is the closest comparison on this site, so it comes down to fit rather than a winner. Product Fruits is the broader product and the one to pick if the extra surface is surface you'll use.
Product Fruits is stronger at
A knowledge base, in-app help centre and newsfeed on every plan
Elvin, an AI copilot with conversational and voice onboarding
Built-in NPS and surveys, plus a feedback widget for bug reports
Native iOS support and a larger catalogue of ready-made integrations
HelpHero is stronger at
Every feature on every plan, with nothing held back for the tier above
Unlimited tours, checklists, hotspots, segments and team members
Built-in A/B testing rather than a second tool to run it
A lower price at every published tier, and the gap grows as you scale
HelpHero is the better fit if what you need is in-app guidance done well, without discovering halfway through the month that surveys or the API are on the plan above, or that adding a colleague to review a tour means an upgrade. We're not a neutral party here, but both pricing pages are public, so you can check every number above yourself.
I reviewed a lot of in-app guide tools, and HelpHero’s interface is best of the best. It helps me focus on creating a great experience for our customers. I love working with HelpHero.

05Questions
Common questions about Product Fruits alternatives
How much does Product Fruits cost?
Product Fruits publishes every price, on five monthly-active-user bands. Starter runs from $149 a month at 1,500 users up to $499 at 20,000, and Pro from $249 up to $649 across the same bands. Anything above 20,000 monthly active users is quoted on request. Those are the month-to-month figures from its own pricing page.
Is HelpHero cheaper than Product Fruits?
Yes, though at the entry tier it's closer than you might expect. Product Fruits Starter is $149 a month for up to 1,500 monthly active users; the HelpHero plan that covers those users is $115 a month. The gap widens further up: at 20,000 monthly active users Product Fruits Starter is $499 a month against $299 for HelpHero. It widens again if you compare against Product Fruits Pro, which is where the REST API, surveys and custom events live. That plan is $249 a month at 1,500 users.
What does Product Fruits' Starter plan leave out?
Going by Product Fruits' own plan comparison: surveys and NPS, the private knowledge base, the REST API, custom events, tour JS triggers, and the Mixpanel, HubSpot, Segment, Zapier and Typeform integrations. Starter also caps you at 15 tours, 50 hints, 2 checklists, 5 segments, 1 language and 3 seats. Branching and conditional logic in the flow builder are a Pro feature too.
Does Product Fruits have built-in A/B testing?
No. Its help documentation says content can be conditionally displayed using the segmentation feature and that A/B testing can be achieved the same way: you run the test in a third-party tool, pass the variant into Product Fruits as a custom user property, and build a segment around it. HelpHero includes split testing on every plan, so you can compare two versions of a tour without another tool in the chain.
What does Product Fruits do better than HelpHero?
The knowledge base is the big one. Product Fruits bundles a public knowledge base, an in-app help centre, a newsfeed and a feedback widget into every plan, and HelpHero has none of those. It also has Elvin, an AI copilot that answers questions and can run onboarding as a text or voice conversation, built-in NPS and surveys from Pro upwards, support for native iOS apps, and a longer list of off-the-shelf integrations.
Can I try either tool without talking to sales?
With HelpHero, yes: a free 14 day trial, no credit card, no call. Product Fruits also offers a free trial with no credit card, but its pricing page says the trial starts with a quick demo to check the fit with your goals and tech stack, and that the trial length is agreed during that call.
How hard is it to switch from Product Fruits to HelpHero?
HelpHero installs as a JavaScript snippet or through the Chrome extension, in the same way as Google Analytics or Intercom, so getting it running takes minutes. Rebuilding your existing flows is the longer part of the job, and it's worth checking first whether you were relying on the knowledge base or Elvin, since those don't have a HelpHero equivalent. Our support team will help you plan the move.
